Abilis Foundation is intensifying funding in the Mekong region
Abilis has started a new approach in the area. The aim of Abilis Foundation is to strengthen funding in the Mekong countries at grassroot level. Abilis is also going to give technical support, in other words provide training, give advice and help grassroot DPOs (Disabled People’s Organizations) apply for funding from Abilis.
Abilis has appointed Ms. Saowalak Thongkuay to be the Regional Coordinator for the Mekong countries (Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia). Activities in the region will start step by step. Abilis already has a good partnership cooperation in Cambodia and there are many projects ongoing in the country.
Saowalak, or Sao for short, was in Finland for a job introductory period at the Abilis Head Quarters in Helsinki Finland from the 14th until the 21st April. Saowalak has an extensive working experience in the disability sector and she has been involved in the development of regional activities as an employee of Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability (APCD) and Disabled Peoples' International Asia-Pacific regional office (DPI/AP).

Social Media tools at Abilis Foundation
Abilis has increasingly received requests to join different social networks (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, YouTube etc.). These are new social media tools that give people around the world the opportunity to inform the public and each other on matters of immediate importance, one can engage in peer-to-peer conversations and exchanges. However, these means are no substitute for good writing. Abilis, unfortunately, has for the time being neither resources nor capacities to create and maintain most of these social media tools.
Anyhow, as a reaction to the many Facebook requests, Abilis has now also an informative presentation only in Facebook for pure info and with a direct link to our website. No contacts can be established through Facebook with Abilis!
However, Abilis continuously concentrates on and appreciates so-called traditional Internet-based communication (E-mail). Therefore, we would like to emphasize that the best information source about our activities remain our web pages and the best way of contacting Abilis is either through E-mail, phone, fax or postal letter.
We are hoping for your understanding. Thank you!
