Ghana

Chief Executive Taija Heinonen and Project Coordinator Jaana Linna made a monitoring trip to Ghana in March 2008. Negotiations of having a partner organisation in Ghana started with VOLPHIG which (later VOICE) also hosted Abilis delegation.

Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled, GSPD, Hohoe Branch, performed a drama about the rights of people with disabilities, PWDs. GSPD members had developed many IGA activities.

Somaliland

Abilis Board Member Liisa Kauppinen and Project Coordinator Tuula Heima-Tirkkonen made monitoring visit to Somaliland in April 2008. The visit was hosted by Disability Action Network, DAN and Somaliland National Disability Forum, SNDF. Brave representatives from Southern Somalia Disability Forum had travelled to North for Hargeisa joint meeting.

Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan


Project Coordinators Leena Hahle and Marina Kitaigorodski visited Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan in September 2008. The aim for the trip was to start partnership negotiations with the organizations of disabled persons' in both countries. Many already ongoing projects in both countries were visited.

Disabled Children

Reabilitasionnyj tsentr dlja detei invalidov - Rehabilitation Center of Disabled Children Beypil in Kyrgyzstan. There is a centre for children and also a farm for producing milk, wool and meat.

Tajikistan, Obscestvo Invalidof Faizabadskogo Rainona -project Fishpond.

Tajikistan, Obshestvo invalidov Nosir Hisravskogo raiona. The project was Goats and Local Birds Rearing for food security of the association members.

Tajikistan, DILSHOD organisation has on ongoing workshop where disabled people produce and repair tricycles, wheelchairs and other mobility appliances.
Besides the workshop they also have a sewing unit.

Darvozskoe Obshestvo Invalidov GBAO, Dushanbe, Tajikistan. GBAO has Beekeeping project by the new highway to China. Honey is sold by the roadside.

2008 Tanzania

Monitoring and negotiation trip to Tanzania was made by Abilis Chief Executive Taija Heinonen and Project Coordinator Andrea Fichtmüller in October 2008. Abilis delegation had an overnight stay in Dar es Salaam and travelled to Mwanza to negotiate with SHIVYAWATA - Mwanza, Abilis Partner Organisation. Madam Taija managed to have a meeting with SHIVYAWATA and visit some of the applicants. Unfortunately and suddenly Taija died while sleeping during next night on 22nd of October 2008.

Mrs. Andrea continued the project monitoring trip to Kigoma and other south Tanzanian cities.
