Persons with disabilities are often unemployed due to the disability they have, lack of vocational training and negative attitudes of the society. Abilis recognizes difficulties in finding jobs and hence promotes education and employment opportunities.
Every year Abilis funds projects that deal with income generation and poverty reduction. Typically, these projects include activities such as cattle raising, agriculture, carpentry, handicraft, baking and computer skills. Often self-employment and small entrepreneurship are the means to income generation and improvement of living standards.
For a person with a disability, learning a vocation and finding a job are both a possibility and a challenge. Both are essential to become an active member of a community.
