Abilis Foundation seeks Programme Coordinator
Join us at Abilis Foundation and coordinate the country programme of an appointed country in Africa or Asia! In this position, you will be a part of an international team that does rewarding and meaningful work. You will be responsible for one of the foundation’s programme countries, supported by a team of experts as well as the guidance and coordination of a Programme Manager. The tools and processes developed for the use of the foundation will also help you in your duties. We are looking for a Programme Coordinator to work at the Abilis offices in Helsinki. The position is full-time and permanent.
The core duties consist of granting project funding to local organisations of persons with disabilities who design and implement the projects and provide reports on their results to the foundation. In addition to granting project funding, the foundation acts to raise awareness of disability issues and conducts advocacy aimed at decision-makers and communities to improve the status and human rights of persons with disabilities. Abilis Foundation is implementing its global programme in Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Vietnam. The foundation’s main source of funding is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland.
Duties of a Programme Coordinator
Planning, coordination and reporting of the country programme in association with the country representatives and providing guidance and support to country representatives in their daily work.
Coordination of project funding in a named programme country and related project management work (handling project applications and reporting according to the foundation’s processes).
Monitoring trips through which the quality and results of the work is verified.
Collaboration with other actors in the sector, in Finland as well as in the programme country, and monitoring the overall situation of the programme country.
Participation in the foundation’s global programme work and strengthening the programme work through one’s own expertise.
Preparing materials related to the appointed programme country for board meetings of the foundation and implementing the board’s decisions.
Performing the duties of a Programme Coordinator requires
Suitable educational background and/or work experience
Expertise in disability issues
Familiarity with issues connected to global development and/or development cooperation.
Experience in organisations of persons with disabilities and/or civil society
Good communication and networking skills and ability to coordinate.
Fluency in written and spoken English, the working language is English. Other language skills will be considered an advantage.

The work starts on May 1, 2023, or as agreed. The foundation complies with the collective agreement for social sector organisations. The position of a Programme Coordinator belongs to the requirement level 5. The position is subject to a six-month trial period. Remote and office work can be combined in accordance with the foundation's hybrid work model.
